In this 90 minute repertoire workshop, I’ll teach you an arrangement of the well-known jazz waltz “Alice In Wonderland”. We’ll cover several different comping patterns for 3/4 time. We’ll also explore how to lock in your comping with vocals (your own or another singer’s) so that your ukulele playing helps enhance the story the song is telling.
Level: Lower intermediate. Confident beginners up for a challenge welcome too. Chord diagrams will be provided on handouts.
Price: $15 Canadian. This is a special discount price in case you’ve been affected by the pandemic
Tuning: this workshop will use GCEA tuning. Both high G and low G welcome.
About this song: the song “Alice In Wonderland” is a favourite of jazz instrumentalists but it also has some lovely lyrics. If you’re not familiar with it, you can listen to a reference recording I made in July (over a backing track) here: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=285752702635513
This workshop will be delivered online via Zoom. If you don’t have a webcam and just want to follow along, that is fine. But if you have a question that requires me to see you play, please turn on your webcam so that I can see your hands and your instrument. You do not have to install special software – Zoom can run in your web browser. You will receive a weblink when you register.
