Intro to Jazz Comping on the Ukulele – Blue Moon (additional workshop)

This workshop is SOLD OUT. If there is enough interest I can offer another workshop on Sunday August 8th at a later time (4 PM to 5:30 PM EDT). Please join the waitlist below or email: [email protected] if you are interested in August 8, and I will let you know if I’m offering a repeat workshop that day.

In this workshop you’ll learn some basic jazz chords for the ukulele, including some nifty tricks that will help you navigate common chord sequences found in jazz standards. We’ll also cover some basic right hand techniques that will help your strumming achieve the ‘swing’ sound. We’ll use the Rogers and Hart standard “Blue Moon” as the basis for this workshop.

Level: Experienced beginners and up. Chord diagrams will be provided on handouts.

Price: $20 Canadian. This is a special discounted price in case you’ve been affected by the impacts of the pandemic.

Enrolment limited to 10 students: due to the foundational nature of this particular workshop, enrolment is capped at 10 so that I can spend more time providing individual feedback as needed.

Tuning: we will use GCEA tuning – both low G or high G welcome

This workshop will be delivered online via Zoom. If you don’t have a webcam and just want to follow along, that is fine. But if you have a question that requires me to see you play, please turn on your webcam so that I can see your hands and your instrument. You do not have to install special software – Zoom can run in your web browser. You will receive a weblink when you register.
